Our little angel - keep us in your thoughts

Hi friends.

Most of you know that we are having a baby girl soon, but do not know the details. Carrie will be induced on Wednesday the 16th of March. It's only days away! We have been lucky enough (thanks, Mom) to see her many times in 3D ultrasounds. She is beautiful. Carrie says she's got my lips and we can only hope that she's also got my thighs :-)

We found out four months ago at our 20-week ultrasound that our special baby girl, Logan, has a lethal heart defect. It has gotten worse with time. Logan's time with us will be very short. Doctors expect that she will be born alive, but do not know whether her little heart will keep her alive for minutes, days, or weeks. We have two wishes for Logan and Carrie and me:
  1. Logan will be comfortable and feel no pain
  2. We hope to be able to hold her alive

The past four months have been very difficult. We have found peace in our testimonies of the gospel of Jesus Christ as we know it. We know that we knew our sweet little girl before this life, and that she is a very special and courageous spirit. She has proven herself to her Heavenly Father already, and does not need the trials and pain that come with earth life. All she needed to complete her Father's plan for her is a physical body, which Carrie and I are honored to participate in providing for her. We are so very proud to welcome this heroic spirit into our family. We know that through the sacrifice of her older brother and our Savior, we can live with Logan for eternity if we do our part. She will be our guiding star.

We have largely kept this situation to ourselves. It has been a difficult thing to talk about. I know you'll understand why we've been so private about it. We are blessed to have incredible family and friends. You all want to know what you can do to help. Please just keep us in your thoughts and prayers. If you would like, please join me in a 24-hour fast on Saturday and Sunday for the two desires I've bulleted above. I have seen the Lord grant incredible miracles through fasting and prayer, and we really need his help right now.

I know that everyone wants to help and offer support and comfort. Please leave you comments here. I hope that you won't be offended if we are not able to answer phone calls or emails. It is a difficult thing for us to talk about right now and we need our space. I know many of you have been through difficult things before, and you'll understand. Thanks for your love and support. I will update this blog with new information as it becomes available.

We can hardly wait to meet our little Angel in a few days!

Bryan & Carrie Bostrom

  1. Oh Bryan and Carrie! This was a beautiful post for one of the hardest of trials! Our prayers will be added to yours and may you be blessed with your hearts desires. My sister went through this. They were given 16 hours to be together. They have felt jenni's influence many times throughout the years. I had the opportunity to stand as proxy when the family was sealed. I will never forget the spirit we all felt in that room that day. You are indeed blessed with one of Heavenly Fathers most chosen!
All our love to you and your family!

  9. Your family will be in my prayers. What a wonderful testimony of the great plan of happiness. While it might not seem happy now, having an eternal perspective will help ease the pain. I used to serve at the LDS branch at Primary Children's and I can tell you from experience that those families who relied on the gospel and their testimonies were at absolute peace. So much love was felt in their rooms as compared to those that were living in panic and fear. Like you said, you "can live with Logan for eternity if we do our part." I hope you can find peace at this time.

  17. I saw this in my facebook feed, I know we haven't really seen each other since what, middle school or high school? Anyway, I'm so sorry. Your faith and love for your baby girl through such heartbreak is so humbling. I'll be fasting and praying for you.

You may have seen this quote before but my friend recently lost her baby and said it has brought her comfort, "The Lord takes many away, even in infancy, that they may escape the envy of man, and the sorrows and evils of this present world; they were too pure, too lovely, to live on earth; therefore, if rightly considered, instead of mourning we have reason to rejoice as they are delivered from evil, and we shall soon have them again." 18. Hi Carrie and Bryan this is Ally (Clegg) Poulton. Carrie I know I haven't seen you since collage but I just saw this and wanted to add my support, prayers, thoughts and love for both of you. My second child, Will, has had many problems and one of them is a heart defect. He is doing very well now but I have always thought of parents who have to go through heartache like you and I admire your strength. I hope and pray that you will get some precious moments with your sweet Logan. I have to agree with the quote above. You are both amazing for being strong through this.

    All my love,

    Ally

  23. I'm blown away by your positive attitude. Austin and I will pray for things to go well tomorrow. My brother lost his daughter that was born with heart defects. My sister-in-law, Ruth, blogs about their unexpected twists in life. I only share it to maybe give you a source of strength from some one who has gone through a similar trial. We love you guys and you will be in our prayers.

  27. Bryan and Carrie,
Without knowing of your situation until this very minute, and having just lost one of my best buds in Ramone, I said to DeDe last night, I cannot imagine how hard it would be to lose a child. I echo what Jeremy said and I admire your attitudes and strength in such a really unbelievably tough time. We will pray for you guys. P.S. Bryan, I appreciated your words about Ramone.
